Helping Children Chase Their Dreams

Children by nature are curious and love to dream about many things. Among those dreams are what they would like to do when they grow up. Many times adults, however, squash those dreams, discounting them as irrelevant or not possible. Along with crushing those dreams, many times the child’s self-esteem is also crushed.
Let’s change that for our generation of children, and instead help them chase those dreams whole-heartedly! If they want to sing, allow them to take lessons and every opportunity to sing. If they want to race cars, they can start by racing bikes. If they want their own business, they can have a lemonade stand that partners with other businesses and travels to different locations. If they want to go to the Olympics, let them start training now. If they want to be a Youtube star, help them write the scripts, filming and uploading to the website. If they desire to work in the medical field, fire or police department, take tours of the various places and see how they can get involved as early as possible. Help them research their career of choice by reading books, searching the internet, doing interviews and even practicing the skills at home and school. Let them draw and color pictures and talk about their dreams. Help them set goals and lists of things they can do to make it happen. As they are doing all these things they might discover that what they thought they wanted to do, isn’t at all what they wanted. Then assist them in exploring other opportunities and go through the process as many times as they would like. It is amazing the bonding between parents and children when they dream, work and play together, helping each other become all that they were meant to be.

Toughest of Times

There tough times, there are tougher times and then there are the toughest of times. Right now, up until this point in my life, my kids and I are in the toughest times we've ever been in. My faith in God is the lowest it's ever been but somehow not extinguished. My faith in people especially in my faith is even lower than my faith in God. Family and friends that I thought would be there for us no matter what, just aren't. We are being mocked, God is being mocked and unless something changes, our story will be one of those sad stories that people wonder why no one stopped the situation or that there was some kind of action that we did to deserve this. Other than loving God and my children there is nothing that I or my kids have done to go through what we are.
